Meghalaya is often referred to as the Abode of Clouds and is a crown jewel of the North-Eastern states of India. The ever-growing tourist hotspot can wow you with its stunning waterfalls, pleasant climate, gorgeous valleys, lakes, caves, and lively culture. However, the focal point of tourism seems to be the numerous, scenic waterfalls scattered all over the hill region, and these attract thousands of people to the heavenly state each day.
Explore Shillong, the capital city that still boasts of a fine colonial heritage and is one of the most fashion-conscious cities in the country. Owing to the magnificent lakes all around the town, and the hills surrounding it, Shillong has often been called the Scotland of the East.
15 kilometers from Shillong, is Smit that is known for its rolling hills, pretty settings, and gorgeous views. The village is supposed to be a pollution-free destination and a great spot to get away from the crowded Shillong city.
Once the wettest place on Earth, Cherrapunji is a misty, cloud-covered destination that is a must-visit spot on the Meghalaya tourist route. Home to numerous waterfalls, it’s the best place to go on short rides or hikes.
Home to about 700-odd families, Mawlynnong is dubbed as the cleanest village in Asia and this is a source of pride for the locals. Visit this serene village and enjoy the cool environs, friendly locals, and amazing hospitality of the small hamlet.
