All about the Amazing Arunachal Motorcycle Tour (15D/14N).

Our Arunachal motorcycle tour explores the Eastern Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, its lesser know culture and pristine environs.

Arunachal Pradesh is a land full of mystique and hardly explored by local tourists. Called the Land of the Dawn lit mountains, Arunachal Pradesh is a giant patch of green and white on the map. Most of Arunachal Pradesh’s terrain consists of deep valleys flanked by highland plateaus and ridges that rise to the peaks of the Great Himalayas.

The Sela Pass is a high-altitude mountain pass located on the border between the Tawang and West Kameng Districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It has an elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) and connects the Indian Buddhist town of Tawang to Dirang and Guwahati. The pass supports scarce amounts of vegetation and is usually snow-covered to some extent throughout the year. Sela Lake, near the summit of the pass, is one of approximately 101 lakes in the area that are sacred in Tibetan Buddhism. While Sela Pass does get heavy snowfall in winters, it is usually open throughout the year unless landslides or snow require the pass to be shut down temporarily.

Assam is the gateway to the Northeast and the most populated city in the region is its capital city, Guwahati. The state is famous for its colorful festivals, simple yet delicious cuisine, the mighty Brahmaputra river, and vibrant culture.

  1. Day 1 Arrive in Guwahati

The first day of the tour is for you to reach Guwahati and check in to your hotels. If you have sufficient time left, we will collect your motorcycles and check them for any defects or modifications to be done. Today you will spend time with your tour leader who will answer any questions you might have and introduce you to the tour.

  2. Day 2 Stay in Guwahati

After a hearty breakfast, you will take a small ride around the city to get used to the traffic in India. It will be an interesting experience as you figure out the road rules, unsaid rules and dynamics of our roads. After your riding experience, we have lunch and then you have the rest of the day to yourself. You can choose to rest, work on your motorcycle, ride around the city or go shopping. But we recommend you to rest as much as possible.

  3. Day 3 Guwahati to Nameri (145 miles, 5.5 hrs)

To get your tour started off, we have an easy and comfortable ride planned. Our destination is Nameri, just 225 kms away and we will ride mostly through good highway stretches for the most part. Reach Nameri in the evening and relax in the hotel.

  4. Day 4 Nameri to Dirang (95 miles, 6 hrs)

After breakfast, we are all set to enter Arunachal Pradesh. Riding along the Jia Bhareli river, we cross into Arunachal and take a quick break as we get our permits checked. Over the next few hours, we drive through rural settings, small valleys and ride through off road stretches to reach Dirang, a small mountain village.

  5. Day 5 Stay in Dirang

The schedule is open for the day since you will need to rest a little bit before you gain more altitude the next day. We take this time to explore the town, walk through the markets, visit a small Gompa, and take a stroll near the river.

  6. Day 6 Dirang to Tawang (85 miles, 6 hrs)

The Sela Pass, sitting at 14,000+ feet will need to be crossed today as we head towards Tawang. The pass is quite tricky and the slow ride will take us a couple of hours to complete. On the way, we get to see jaw-dropping sights of the snow-clad Himalayas and snack in army canteens. The stretch can be mostly off-road so get ready for a bumpy ride.

  7. Day 7 Stay in Tawang

Wake up early if you want to see the magnificent sunrise from Tawang! Day 7 is all about exploring the sights around the town – war memorials, monasteries and local markets.

  8. Day 8 Stay in Tawang

Today’s tour will have us go on an off-road trip to a border village located close to China. Near the village is a beautiful high-altitude lake, which if not frozen, makes for a great picnic spot. We head back to Tawang in the evening and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

  9. Day 9 Tawang to Dirang (85 miles, 6 hrs)

We head back to Dirang as a layover to our next destination in Bomdilla. This is a rest day, since the ride from Tawang to Dirang will take about 5-7 hours to complete.

  10. Day 10 Dirang to Bomdilla (30 miles, 2 hrs)

Bombilla is a small village located on the border of Arunachal and Assam. From Dirang, we ride downhill, and the journey across 45 kms will take us 2-3 hours to complete. On the way, we can explore a small Buddhist monastery. Check into the hotel in Bomdilla by afternoon and walk around the village in the evening.

  11. Day 11 Stay in Bomdilla

Rupa is a village located an hour away and we ride there to see the village as well as a small monastery. Post lunch, we head to Tenga valley to spend some time by the river.

  12. Day 12 Bomdilla to Tezpur (100 miles, 6 hrs)

After checking out of Bomdilla, we will head to Tezpur located at the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra. If the weather is good, we take the ferry to an island, visit the local market or explore some historic sites in the city.

  13. Day 13 Stay in Tezpur

We take a rest day in the flatlands of Tezpur before heading back to Guwahati. The day can either be spent relaxing or taking a boat trip to some islands on the Brahmaputra River.

  14. Day 14 Tezpur to Guwahati (115 miles, 4.5 hrs)

The tour is almost over and time to head back to Guwahati. After breakfast in Tezpur, we ride across the Brahmaputra river. On reaching Guwahati, we return the motorcycles. If you have a flight to catch, we drop you to the airport. Else you can choose to relax or visit the city markets.

  15. Day 15 Depart from Guwahati

This is the last day of the tour. All motorcycles will need to be returned and post check out, we will escort you to the airport.

Every tour is personally delivered by both our trip leaders, who will be your tour guides and trip leaders respectively. Along with this, if required you will be accompanied by a mechanic and a driver. Here is an intro to our team

The choice is entirely yours. Once you contact us we can provide you with a list of motorcycles from brands such as Royal Enfield, Bajaj, KTM, BMW, Hero, Honda etc. Pricing will depend on the motorcycle you select.

We encourage our guests to experience the local cuisines of the destinations we travel to. In remote areas, we might not get options for eating different cuisines. We will ensure you get wholesome, tasty and hygienic food wherever we go. If you are from outside India, here’s a guide to get you going.

All 3 states have flatlands and mountainous terrain, so most roads are a bit narrow with no dividers. The road condition will be a mixture of tarmac, dirt roads and rocky roads due to the weather conditions and altitude. But you will love riding through the state as its ever changing landscape is stunning, with plenty of sights to see.

Well, we will provide you with bottled water throughout the tour.

We try to blend in homestays, hotels, and resorts in each destination to balance comfort with the local experiences. All your accommodations will be clean, hygienic, comfortable and safe.

No, we have back-up vehicles on all our tours that will carry your luggage for you. But you should carry your valuables like a passport, cash, camera, and other important equipment with you all the time. If you like, we can provide you with some

While riding, we should have access to public toilets/hotel toilets. But there will instances where there are none and you will have to answer nature’s call in nature.

Yes, you can, and for pillion riders, we have a reduced tariff.

Ideally, you should be riding with you on your motorcycle. But occasionally, they can travel in the back-up vehicle. Back-up vehicles are primarily for support staff and to carry your luggage, motorcycle spares, and tools. Each back-up vehicle acts as a support vehicle and will always tail the group maintaining a certain time distance.

Different countries and companies have their own policies, but you should pick one that covers you for your entire period of travel. The policy should also cover you for riding motorcycles, unexpected curtailment of the holiday, medical expenses arising overseas, loss or damage to luggage & property and personal liability claims against the participant and emergency evacuation. We highly recommend this for foreign citizens.

We carry a basic first aid box with us and encourage you to carry your own medicines as well. In case of an emergency, we take you to the closest available medical center. We would also request you to share any pre-existing medical conditions and allergies, if any with us.
